Our Martineau family pioneered in Dayton, Minnesota in 1857. They were French Canadians that emigrated from Quebec. Later they married their Prussian immigrant neighbors: Ed Martineau in 1901 to Mathilda Schwartz; William Martineau in 1921 to Amanda Schleif, daugther of Frederick Schleif and Amelia Krause. These German families had immigrated to Minnesota from the Kingdom of Prussia, from West Prussia, Posen and Pomerania.
